An exciting opportunity has arisen at Hythe Engineering for a Health and Safety Advisor to join our dynamic team during a period of significant growth. Hythe Engineering, operating within the marine engineering sector, is situated in Portsmouth Naval Base. This newly created role will play a crucial part in supporting the Facilities Function. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Conducting new risk assessments for processes and review and update existing ones. 
  • To provide expert, professional health and safety advice, guidance, and support to all interested parties. 
  • Assist in accident investigation processes. 
  • To support the company in ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation. 
  • Work in collaboration with operational departments to ensure all activities have been adequately risk assessed, with safe systems of work been agreed, communicated, and understood. 
  • Support operational departments in ensuring COSHH compliance including the maintenance of the company COSHH register. 
  • Assist with and/or complete regular formal safety inspections and internal ISO audits as required across all locations and operations. 
  • Manage and maintain relevant documentation including audit reports, accident reports, etc. 
  • Deliver workplace Toolbox Talks 

Skills and Experience: 

  • 4-10 years in a similar role, such as Health and Safety Advisor, H&S Officer or HSE Officer 
  • A good understanding of COSHH and GHS 
  • Strong communicator and the ability to positively influence others. 
  • Previous experience of working in a welding manufacturing or warehouse environment 
  • Solid experience conducting and reviewing risk assessments. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, comfortable with training, conflict management and approaching challenging situations. 
  • NEBOSH General Certificate as a minimum.  
  • Computer literacy is essential, with good knowledge of Microsoft office packages. 
  • A self-starter, proactive, prepared to take the initiative and work without direct supervision. 
  • Passionate about building trust, working as part of a team, and driving results.

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Hythe Engineering for a Facilities Supervisor to join our dynamic team during a period of significant growth. Hythe Engineering, operating within the marine engineering sector, is situated in Portsmouth Naval Base. This newly created role will play a crucial part in supporting the Facilities Function.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for office desk space occupancy and management
  • Act as a key administrator for fleet management and visitor management
  • Maintain the fleet of road transport vehicles including insurance, breakdown, accidents, servicing, MOTs, LOLER inspections, road tax, fuel accounts and cards, handover takeovers, vehicle tracking systems/software, PCNs and speeding fines.
  • Conduct visitor and contractor Inductions
  • Source and maintain storage facilities
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, including warehousing, transportation and safety standards.
  • Develop and implement safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all personnel and visitors.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and training sessions to promote a culture of safety within the logistics team.
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained according to the published schedules
  • Any other general administrative duties

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Hythe Engineering for a Workshop Trainee. You will start with the basics of working safely with polyester-based glass-reinforced plastic (aka GRP) and understand the functions of components (e.g. resin, catalyst, pigments). Tackle practical hands-on activities from gel coat repairs and colour matching to larger hull repairs requiring temporary moulds and formers. You will then move through all the build processes of one of our boat models, working with multiple trade types. GRP, Engineering, Mechanical, Paint, Joinery & Electrical.

Welding Apprenticeship

Job Role: Apprentice Welder 

Job Type: Apprenticeship 

Employment Type: Full-time   

Length of Apprenticeship:  Four years  

Working Hours: 36 hours initially for SETA training (Millbrook) period raising to 42.5 when transition to Hythe Engineering 

Location: Between Portsmouth Naval Base, Fareham and Millbrook 

Start Date: September 2024 

 

About the Programme

By joining a Hythe Engineering Welder apprenticeship, you’ll work and learn as part of a talented team that services and supports BAE and the Royal Navy. You’ll gain valuable skills and qualifications in welding, and cross-sector experience to provide you with all the skills you require for your career as a qualified Marine Welder.   

Your Education/Training

The Welding Apprenticeship is typically a 48-month (4 years) scheme, the first 6 months will be at SETA training academy where you will complete your foundation engineering course. You’ll carry out various tasks ranging from welding structures using Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW), Manual Metal Arc (MMA), to pipe welding using Tungsten Inert Gas Welding (TIG).  

Requirements
  • Must be 18+ 
  • 3 GCSEs with at least Grade 5, or equivalent, in Mathematics, English and a Science 
  • Please be aware that many roles working for Hythe Engineering will be subject to security clearance.
