Responsible for the overall management, organisation, and optimisation of the stores department within a fast-paced ship repair environment. This role includes ensuring the availability of critical materials and aligning stores with organisational objectives. Leading a team of supervisors and personnel, drive cost efficiency, and maintain high standards of safety and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the overall store’s function, including procurement, stock control, storage, and distribution of materials and equipment.
- Manage and monitor inventory systems to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and timely availability of materials.
- Analyse inventory trends and operational requirements to forecast future material needs.
- Lead, mentor, and manage the stores team, including supervisor and personnel, ensuring optimal performance and professional development.
- Contribute to and implement policies and procedures for inventory management, and disposal of obsolete or damaged stock.
- Oversee the stores department budget, identifying opportunities for cost savings.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, especially in handling hazardous materials.
- Report on inventory performance and departmental efficiency to senior management.
- Identify and implement continuous improvements in systems and processes to enhance overall efficiency and reduce downtime.
Requirements
- Please note that roles at Hythe Engineering require security clearance. Successful candidates must obtain security clearance for the position.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Experience in stores or inventory management, ideally within the ship repair, maritime, or heavy industrial sectors.
- Proven track record of managing procurement processes, and inventory systems.
- Proficiency in ERP systems and inventory management software.
- Strong knowledge of logistics, and materials handling best practices.
- Familiarity with maritime industry materials and components (preferred).
- Advanced understanding of safety regulations and environmental standards.
