Job Role: Senior Buyer

Salary: £35,000-£42,500 per annum 
Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week 
Location: Portsmouth  

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Buyer to join our team and take a leading role in our purchasing operations. Key Responsibilities: 

  • Sending out RFQs 
  • Placing orders with approved suppliers 
  • Developing and maintaining positive relationships with suppliers to ensure best service and price 
  • Managing Purchase Orders  
  • Support with Invoice and Delivery Note queries 
  • Maintaining accurate records of Purchases and Inventory on ERP System 
  • Liaising with Project Managers, Engineers, and Suppliers to ensure timely and efficient delivery of goods and services 
  • Resolving any issues or discrepancies related to purchasing and supply chain 
  • Negotiates pricing and lead-times with Suppliers 
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with key suppliers 
  • Objectively measures and communicates Supplier performance to support Supply Chain continuous improvement initiatives. 
  • Collaboration between Stores and Production functions. 
  • Identify opportunities for purchasing process improvement and cost reduction. 
  • Stay up to date on industry developments and best practices. 
  • Work in alignment with our culture and values 

Desirable Qualifications and Experience: 

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in purchasing and must have worked in a similar role and have demonstrable relevant experience  
  • Proficient in ERP systems  
  • Attention to detail  
  • A proactive and flexible approach to work 
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving/decision making skills; ability to make timely, effective, fact-based decisions. Includes a strong working knowledge of MS Office 
  • Knowledge of supplier performance management practices, including supplier scorecards and performance metrics 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to perform and produce results in multifunctional teams in a dynamic work environment 
  • Proven ability to develop collaborative relationships and influence up, down, and across organisational lines

  • Please be aware that roles at Hythe Engineering require security clearance, and successful security clearance must be obtained for the role.

Standard working hours are 37.5 hours per week, 8:30 to 16:30, Monday to Friday with half an hour unpaid lunch break.
