Salary: £36,000 to £42,000

Working Hours: 42.5 hours per week  

Location: Fareham Workshop

 

We are looking for an experienced Stores Manager with a passion for efficiency and leadership to join our team in a fast-paced environment. In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring the smooth operation of our stores department. Responsible for the overall management, organisation, and optimisation of the stores department within a fast-paced ship repair environment. This role includes ensuring the availability of critical materials and aligning stores with organisational objectives. Leading a team of supervisors and personnel, drive cost efficiency, and maintain high standards of safety and compliance.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Oversee the overall store’s function, including procurement, stock control, storage, and distribution of materials and equipment.
  • Manage and monitor inventory systems to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and timely availability of materials.
  • Analyse inventory trends and operational requirements to forecast future material needs.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage the stores team, including supervisor and personnel, ensuring optimal performance and professional development.
  • Contribute to and implement policies and procedures for inventory management, and disposal of obsolete or damaged stock.
  • Oversee the stores department budget, identifying opportunities for cost savings.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, especially in handling hazardous materials.
  • Report on inventory performance and departmental efficiency to senior management.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvements in systems and processes to enhance overall efficiency and reduce downtime. 

Requirements

  • Please note that roles at Hythe Engineering require security clearance. Successful candidates must obtain security clearance for the position.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience in stores or inventory management, ideally within the ship repair, maritime, or heavy industrial sectors.
  • Proven track record of managing procurement processes, and inventory systems.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and inventory management software.
  • Strong knowledge of logistics, and materials handling best practices.
  • Familiarity with maritime industry materials and components (preferred).
  • Advanced understanding of safety regulations and environmental standards.
